Why Steve?

Happiness is a piano!

Growing up I was that kid who got called inside by my mom to go practice piano. Thirty minutes a day. No excuses. There were plenty of tears when I was a child but something happened along the way. I got better. And the practice sessions became enjoyable. And as a teenager I began devouring sheet music, sight-reading and playing by ear.

Not all kids have an appreciation for music. But every child can and should receive some basic understanding of how to play some musical instrument. It’s an exercise in love.

I have training and experience with the Royal Conservatory of Music program having attained my Grade X certification which is just short of a teaching degree.

Students progress at different speeds and have various musical tastes and sensibilities; I try to approach each student with that in mind. Not everyone wants to play classical music and others have no interest in classic rock. Every one should be able to enjoy making music, and I make that my aim. Technical progress is important and I do teach it, but it is a compliment to loving making music. I try to make the lessons and the music making process as stress free and enjoyable as possible.
